Apparently We're At War

As many of you know, I don't own a television and never have, so when I do see TV, my reactions to it tend to elicit giggles and questions if I am Amish. This morning I was at the bank depositing a whopping $15 check, when I happened to glimpse a clip from CNN. The footage showed nonspecific desert rubble fronted by the words "Dozens Killed In Iraq." No further information seemed to be forthcoming.

This troubled me on so many levels. The choice of words. The lack of context. The generic background. The irony. I left so confused, I had no idea if dozens of people had been killed last night in a single incident, or if dozens have been killed during the last six years, if the government is just getting sloppy with its Wag-the-Dog-style plots, or if CNN is run by aliens. Maybe I have been watching too many X Files.
